திருவாசகம்
சிவபுராணம் (5)

பொருள்:
நெற்றியிலே ஒரு கண்ணுடைய பெருமான் தன்னுடைய கருணைக்கண் காட்டியதால் இங்கு வந்தேன். சிந்தனைக்கு எட்டாத பேரழகு மிக்க கழல்பூண்ட திருவடிகளை தொழுது நின்று, வானம், பூமி மற்றும் இவை தவிர மீதி உள்ளன யாவையுமாய், ஒளிமிக்கதாயும், அளவிடும் எல்லைகள் எல்லாம் கடந்து உள்ள பெருமானே ! - உன் பெரிய பெரிய தன்மைகளை மோசமான கர்மவினைகளில் கிடக்கும் நான் புகழ்ந்து போற்றும் வகை தெரியாது இருக்கிறேன்.

விளக்கம்:
இறைவன் காட்டிய அருளினாலன்றி அவனது திருவடியைக் காண முடியாது. ஆதலால், “தன் கருணைக் கண்காட்ட வந்தெய்தி எண்ணுதற்கு எட்டா எழிலார் கழல் இறைஞ்சி” என இறைவனருளால் அவன் திருவடியைக் கண்ட இன்பத்தை பாடுகிறார் மாணிக்கவாசகர். இறைவன் ஐம்பெரும் பூதங்களில் கலந்து அவற்றுக்கு அப்பாலும் இருக்கிறான் என்பதை விளக்க “விண்ணிறந்து மண்ணிறைந்து மிக்காய்” என்றார். இறைவனது பெருமையைக் காட்டித் தன் சிறுமையைக் காட்ட, ‘பொல்லா வினையேன்’ என்றார். இவற்றால் அவையடக்கம் கூறப்பட்டது.

English Transliteration:

Kann nudhalaan than karunai

Kann kaatta vanthu eythi

Ennutharku ettaa

Ezhil aarkazhal irainji

Vinn niraindhum mann niraindhum

Mikkaay vilangu oliyaay

Enn irandhu ellai ilaathaane

Nin perumcheer

Pollaa vinaiyen

Pugazhum'aaru ondru ariyen

English Translation:

I came here (take birth and get the opportunity to sing the praise of Ishvara) because He with an eye on His forehead showed me His mercy,

I stood upon Him saluting the anklet of Him, whose attractiveness beyond the reach of the mind.

Ishvara is filled in the sky and the Earth, He is being the highest and is seen as a glittering light. He is infinite and beyond all limitation of barrier.

I am the one who has done many bad karmas in past births, do not know the ways to praise Your greatness.

1) Kann nudhalaan = the one with an eye on His forehead (Lord Shiva)

6) Ezhil aarkazhal = anklet (of Him who) attractiveness

7) Irainji = salute/perform namaskaram (vanangi is a synonym)

8) Vinn niraindhum = (He is) filled in the sky

9) Mann niraindhum = (He is) filled in the Earth

10) Mikkaay vilangu oliyaay = (He is) the highest and (is seen as) a glittering light

11) Enn irandhu = Infinite

12) Ellai ilaathaane = beyond limitation

13) Nin perumcheer = Your (Ishvara's) greatness

14) Pollaa vinaiyen = I have done many bad karmas

15) Pugazhum'aaru = ways to praise

16) Ondru ariyen = (I) do not know
